Working On A Book
I’m going to start out with a few assumptions. One, that everyone who has used a DSLR/mirrorless camera or personal device, i.e.: camera phone (iOS, Android, or tablet) has created a photo book. Or secondly, has wanted to or tried to and gave up after numerous attempts. Photo books can be a challenging endeavor, or one that provides immense creative satisfaction. I personally prefer to look at it as an effort that provides me with a way to connect my photography with an audience. Working on a book is akin to working on a personal photography project. Own Nature was my last personal project, but like most photographers, I think we are always thinking and working on the next personal project in some manner. I’ve had an on going one for several years that I still haven’t come up with a name for. But, I think I’m getting closer to naming this project. So much so, that I am now considering turning it into a book to celebrate the years of work that have gone into it. It will be a 100% black and white effort. Predominantly digital output. One minor issue I’m grappling with is whether to physically print any of the images outside of the book. I’m not sure I’m going to, but when the book gets closer to fruition, I may offer a single print with the book, or just set up an exhibition of the some of the images. The book is going to focus on my love affair with New York City. I’ve spent years shooting on the streets of NYC, and have found that experience completely captivating. A lot of the images I’ve taken in NYC are posted to my Instagram feed https://www.instagram.com/johnvlahakisphotography/ . I’m planning to worki on the book over the summer, and hope to have it ready by October. But, we’ll see if that happens.
