Nikon D4 And 24-70mm In Low Light
Super storm Sandy's destructive wake is still being dealt with along the shorelines of New Jersey and New York. Last night I headed out to our local NJ beach and took a few shots of the on going beach replenishment project. The D4's low light capabilities are truly amazing. What it's sensor can detect at iso 12,000 was very impressive. The 24-70mm f/2.8 lens (Nikon) was shot wide open with the D4 at 12,000 iso. The flare from the tractor lights was difficult for the lens to control, and post processing didn't do too much to aleviate it. I didn't use a tripod, which in hindsight would have made for sharper images, but for hand held in low light, particulalry at night around 10 pm, I think the D4 did an admirable job. I think I'm going to head out again, but this time I'll bring a tripod and porbably the 24mm 1.4 afs-g lens. i'd like to shoot that one wide open at night with the D4.
